Over a decade ago, ILRI developed \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/cgspace.cgiar.org\/home\u0022\u003ECGSpace\u003C\/a\u003E, an open-access digital repository designed to make agricultural research outputs easy to store, index, find and use. What began as an internal ILRI platform has since been adopted by seven additional CGIAR centers and is now the primary repository for CGIAR\u2019s research programs.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EToday, CGSpace hosts more than \u003Cstrong\u003E147,000 knowledge products\u003C\/strong\u003E and supports over \u003Cstrong\u003E23 million downloads\u003C\/strong\u003E across the system. ILRI\u2019s own contributions exceed \u003Cstrong\u003E24,000 knowledge products\u003C\/strong\u003E, spanning journal articles, briefs, reports and data sets. Scientists and staff were encouraged to use blogs, Twitter, and other platforms to engage with broader audiences beyond traditional research channels. By integrating social media with open access publishing and facilitated engagement, ILRI helped break down silos, broaden the visibility of its work, and bring research into real-time conversations on development and policy.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EBut visibility alone is not enough. ILRI has also recognized the need to actively shape the conversations its science was entering\u2014particularly in global fora where livestock is often misunderstood or misrepresented.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Ch3\u003EBuilding knowledge: Moving the needle through influence\u003C\/h3\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003EToday, livestock systems face global scrutiny\u2014especially for their environmental impacts. Yet much of the debate focuses on industrial-scale practices and consumption in high-income countries, overlooking the social, economic and nutritional roles livestock play in low- and middle-income settings. This skewed narrative can often hamper investments in regions where livestock are essential for livelihoods, resilience and development.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\u003Cp\u003ETo reframe this, ILRI began investing in science-informed advocacy from 2016.
